Dou - Body Armour

Dou - Body Armour
As the core component of a set of samurai armour, the style in which the dou, or cuirass has been fabricated is the key identifying feature in determining the name and style by which an armour set is categorized.

Having evolved over the centuries from rigid, box-like protective coverings of the earliest periods, dou designs eventually encompass numerous brilliantly crafted and unique forms of highly resilient and yet flexible styles of body armour, which varied widely in their method of fabrication, from items assembled from many thousands of individual small iron and or rawhide scales, to body armours made from just a few sections of heavy shoot proof iron plates that were hinged together.

Toraba.com constantly offers a unique selection of authentic period dou, our selection of which always covers a wide spectrum of the various styles of body armour fabrication.
